Beethoven's Fifth
 at The Philadelphia Orchestra: The world's foremost Spanish-born conductor, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, presents a performance of a suite from Manuel de Falla's "gypsy ballet" El amor brujo (Love, the Magician). This rich brew of lush favorites continues with solo performances by two of The Philadelphia Orchestra's beloved musicians, Principal Harp Elizabeth Hainen and Principal Cello Hai-Ye Ni, in music by Turina and Saint-Saëns.

The Johannes Quartet presented by The Philadelphia Chamber Music Society consists of four outstanding musicians who take time away from their busy careers to pursue their love of the string quartet literature. This quartet brings together the Principal cello of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Principal viola of the Philadelphia Orchestra, the first American to win the Paganini Violin Competition in 24 years, and a Concert Artist Guild International Competition Winner, and has been praised by listeners and critics alike for its special combination of passion, warmth, elegance and poetry.

Gary Louie possesses a lively interpretive imagination coupled with a refreshingly understated artistry and a warm, supple tone, qualities that have earned him consistent praise from audiences and critics alike. His recital will include works by 20th-century composers Decruck, Rorem, and Britten along with Louie’s own arrangement of the Carmen Fantasy.

Fresh from his 2008 Carnegie Hall solo debut, Netanel Draiblate is making his mark as a much sought after violinist in the U.S. and abroad. His “Carmen Meets Grieg” program will include two lesser-played versions of the Carmen Fantasy and works by Ysaye and Debussy.
