Karla Chisholm and Michael Raitzyk are the perfect duo to kick off the March Thursday Night Live Jazz series. The Duo is well known to the Baltimore, Annapolis, and D.C. jazz communities and Chisholm has worked with Michael on her own CDs of warm, smoky tunes.
Michael Raitzyk is one of Baltimore’s premier jazz guitarists and his style is a mix of blues, fun, R&B, and jazz. Raitzyk has been playing locally for over 20 years and in 1996 he started the band Charm City Klezmer which has included performances at the Kennedy Center, New York City’s Klezmer Brunch at Tonic, and the Columbia Festival of the Arts. Raitzyk studied guitar at Towson University and at Thomas Jefferson Performance Arts High School in Portland, Oregon. He has also studied with Walt Namath, Larry Coryell, Sheryl Bailey and Adam Rafferty.
Karla Chisholm was raised in Dallas, Texas, and studied vocal performance at the storied music program at the University of North Texas. After stints in Washington and Los Angeles, she now makes her home on the west side of Baltimore. Her vocal style is full of contrasts as she can be strong and strident as well as soft and smooth. Her voice is filled with soul and everything about this duo is sure to entertain.
The performance is free and from 6-9 p.m. in the Crossroads Lounge; free covered parking is available.
