M. S. Sanders will be the featured poet for The Moaning Pipe Cabaret on Thursday, August 19, 2010. This monthly, featured performer & open mic music & literary event takes place on the 3rd Thursday of every month at Ukazoo Books on 730 Dulaney Valley Road, Towson, MD 21204. This event is preceded by an open mic for poetry and acoustic music. Sign-up for the open mic begins at 6:15 pm. This event is free and open to the public. Handicapped accessible.
M. S. Sanders is a Baltimore native and has been writing for over 26 years. He has hosted and organized scores of literary and multimedia events and has been a featured poet at such venues as Artscape, The Martin Luther King Memorial Library, The Maryland Institute College of Art and the WHFS Festival at RFK Stadium. He has won two Baltimore's Best awards from the City Paper for his literary events and publications and garnered first prize in their 8th Annual Poetry Contest. In 2000, he was honored with an individual artist grant for poetry by the Maryland State Arts Council. His work has appeared in numerous literary journals including The Pearl, The Shattered Wig Review and UFO Magazine. Since December of 2009, he has been the host and organizer of the weekly featured poet / open mic literary event !SPEAK YOUR PIECE! and has been honored to present some of the most active and influential poets and performers that the area has to offer. He is currently a freelance writer, graphic designer and actor.
The Moaning Pipe Cabaret is hosted and organized by Marie Abate and Angela Horner.
Marie Abate is a poet and writer. Her work has appeared in the Potomac Review, Urbanite, and the Baltimore Sun, among other publications. She co-hosts an open mic, the Moaning Pipe Cabaret, at Ukazoo Books, on the third Thursday of every month. She is currently pursuing a graduate degree from Johns Hopkins University.
Angela Horner is a writer and permissions editor in Baltimore. She is co-host and organizer of the Moaning Pipe Cabaret open mic in Towson, and has previously served as host of the Amaranth Coffee House open mic and editor of Amaranth Literary Journal and Damozel Magazine.
