The Alzheimer’s Association hosts its annual Memory Ball “Dancing Stars,” formerly the Forget-Me-Not Gala, to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s disease. Frederick County’s premier event will feature cocktails, dinner, and music from local band, The Rock & Roll Relics.
The event highlight is the “Dancing Stars” competition among individuals and couples chosen for their leadership in the community and their support of the Alzheimer’s Association. Many of them have personal connections to Alzheimer’s disease.
The “Dancing Stars” will perform before a panel of judges that includes Mayor Randy McClement, Dr. Theresa Alban (superintendent, Frederick County Public Schools and former Alzheimer’s Association “Dancing Star”), Sasha Scaun, LGSW (Victor Cullen Center and EXIT Realty Corp. International) and Justin Saltzman (2014 You’re Our Star & “Best Tango” trophy winner and sales representative, Liberty Mutual Insurance).
The “Dancing Stars” compete to win the You’re Our Star trophy based on “votes” tied to donations and Judge’s Choice trophies for best dance in the categories of salsa, foxtrot and Venetian waltz.
Adding to the excitement will be the “Making a Memory” raffle drawing. The lucky winner will receive passage for two on the Malt Shop Memories Cruise® from Ft. Lauderdale to the Bahamas, Aruba and Curacao aboard the Holland America m/s Eurodam, Nov. 1-8, 2015, including roundtrip airfare for two on Southwest Airlines to Ft. Lauderdale (total value: $6,000). Raffle tickets are on sale now until the night of the event at $25 each or five for $100. (Only 1,000 tickets will be sold. Raffle participants do not have to be present to win). Proceeds from the Memory Ball will fund supportive services of the Alzheimer’s Association and critical research for a cure. More than 5 million Americans are living with the disease, 97,000 in Maryland and every 67 seconds that number increases by one. Alzheimer’s is the only cause of death among the top 10 in America that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed.
